Cosmic Atlas privacy policy
Last updated 2026-10-23T00:00:00.000Z
Effective date: 23 October 2026
App: Cosmic Atlas (Android, package com.immer.cosmicatlas)
Developer: IMMER Labs
In short
Cosmic Atlas has no accounts and no servers of its own. Your location, learning progress and conversations with Cosmo stay on your phone (unless you choose to report a Cosmo answer). The app is free thanks to ads, and the ad provider (Unity LevelPlay / Unity Ads) collects some device data to show and measure ads, as described below.
1. Who we are
Cosmic Atlas is made by IMMER Labs.
Contact: contact@immerlabs.dev
2. Information that stays on your device
Location. If you allow it, the app reads your approximate location (city level) to calculate the sky above you: planet and star positions, rise and set times, ISS passes and aurora chances. You can instead choose a city by hand. Your location is used only on your phone. The app never sends it to us or to any other service.
Cosmo, the space guide. Questions you ask Cosmo are answered on your phone, by built-in data and calculations or by an on-device language model (Google’s Gemini Nano through Android’s AICore, or the optional “Cosmo Pro” model you can download). Your questions are not sent to us or to any cloud AI service, except an answer you choose to report (see section 3). Your recent chat (up to 200 messages) is kept on your phone so you can scroll back, and you can clear it at any time with “New chat”.
Progress and settings. Lessons, quiz scores, XP, streaks, badges, favourites, event reminders, ad-free time and settings are stored on your phone.
Reminders and notifications are scheduled on your phone. We do not use a push-notification server.
Images you save (“Save HD”, “Set as wallpaper”) are written to your phone’s Pictures/Cosmic Atlas folder or applied through your phone’s own wallpaper screen.
If Android backup is turned on, Android may include your progress, settings and chat in your personal Google backup, under Google’s terms. We cannot access it.
3. Reporting a Cosmo answer
Every Cosmo answer has a “Report” button. If you use it, the app sends us the reason you picked, any note you type, that question and answer, the AI model name and the app and Android versions. Nothing else is included, and nothing identifies you. Reports are delivered through a Google Form (so Google processes them on our behalf) and are used only to improve Cosmo and fix problems. If sending fails, you can choose to send the same report by email instead.
4. Public space data the app downloads
To show live and up-to-date information, the app downloads public data directly from the services below. Like any website, they receive your device’s IP address and basic technical request details (such as the app name). The app sends them no personal information and no location.
- NASA (api.nasa.gov, apod.nasa.gov, images-api.nasa.gov, epic.gsfc.nasa.gov, trek.nasa.gov): picture of the day, image search, Earth photos, asteroids, Moon and Mars maps
- NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center: solar activity and aurora forecasts
- NASA Exoplanet Archive (Caltech/IPAC): exoplanet catalogue
- CelesTrak, tle.ivanstanojevic.me, wheretheiss.at: ISS orbit and live position
- Wikipedia / Wikimedia Commons: photos of planets and deep-space objects
- Hugging Face: download of the optional Cosmo Pro model (only if you choose to download it)
5. Advertising
Cosmic Atlas shows banner, full-screen and optional rewarded video ads through Unity LevelPlay (mediation) and Unity Ads. These services are provided by Unity Technologies under their own privacy terms. To deliver ads, limit how often you see them, measure results and prevent fraud, their software may collect:
- Device and advertising identifiers (for example, Android’s advertising ID and app set ID)
- Approximate location derived from your IP address
- Your interactions with ads (views, taps, video completions)
- Technical diagnostics (device model, Android version, app version, connection type)
This data is encrypted in transit. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland the app asks whether you agree to personalised ads; you can change this at any time in Settings > Privacy. Everywhere, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone’s settings (Settings > Privacy > Ads, or similar). Watching rewarded videos is always optional.
Unity’s privacy policy: unity.com/legal/privacy-policy. To ask Unity to access or delete data linked to your device, use the options described there.
6. What we do not do
- We do not require an account or ask for your name, email or phone number.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not use analytics or crash-reporting services of our own. Crash reports you choose to share through Google Play are handled by Google.
- The app does not access your contacts, photos, camera, microphone or files.
7. Permissions
- Approximate location (optional): to calculate the sky for where you are
- Notifications (optional): daily space fact and the event reminders you choose
- Internet and network state: to download space data, images and ads
- Advertising ID: used by the ad provider as described in section 5
- Set wallpaper: only when you choose “Set as wallpaper”
8. Children
Cosmic Atlas is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will help remove it.
9. Your choices and deleting your data
- Turn location or notifications off at any time in Android settings, or pick a city by hand.
- Clear your Cosmo chat with “New chat” in Cosmo. Reset your learning progress in the app’s Settings.
- Uninstalling the app, or Android Settings > Apps > Cosmic Atlas > Storage > Clear data, deletes everything the app stored on your phone.
- For data held by the ad provider, reset your advertising ID and see Unity’s privacy policy linked above.
- To ask us to delete a Cosmo report you sent, email us with the approximate date and the question; we will delete it.
10. Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date above. Important changes will also be mentioned in the app’s release notes.
